ABSTRACT
Climate change has had a drastic impact on agriculture production and food security around the world. This paper aims to assess the impact of climate change in the European Union as well as India in terms of agricultural production and food security. The European Union has its fair share of challenges in combating food shortage and agricultural crisis. Climate change has both positive and negative effects on agriculture. The Global south continues to face loss and damage due to the change in the climate, however the global north benefits from this creating an imbalance.
The European Union is often dependent and sustains on imports from other countries. India is an agrarian society, but the production of crops is often affected on a large scale due to climate change leading to scarcity of water and release of chlorofluorocarbons that lead to increase in temperature unsuitable for agriculture. Through this paper we will examine the factors of climate change that contribute to a decline in the food supply along with the need for the implementation of sustainable agriculture and strategies to reduce the production of food waste and tracing the carbon footprint to combat climate change. We will study the laws implemented in the European Union for food security and sustainable agriculture and make a comparative analysis with the condition of India and its climate change and policies. This paper also aims to implement the “farm to fork” strategy that is imposed by the European Commission in India.
