ABSTRACT

Ethnic diversity breeds armed conflicts and in this intricate weave of armed conflicts, the conventional lens on victims often overlooks gender dynamics. Within this turbulence, women emerge as exclusive targets for abduction, trafficking, forced impregnation, sexual offenses, and the harrowing specter of sex slavery. In this paper the inclusion of three distinct case studies— Manipur, Ukraine, and Gaza—highlights striking commonalities, underscoring their significance for a comparative study. Together, these cases form a spectrum that vividly illustrates the multifaceted manifestations of armed conflict and the various ways violence against women unfolds. The diversity of these sites not only enables a comprehensive exploration of violence but also provides insights into the distinct settings and types of conflict, offering a nuanced examination. Through this lens, the paper identifies the profound resilience of women and underscores the imperative for a nuanced approach that comprehensively addresses the impact on women, ensuring their voices are heard and their experiences are acknowledged in the broader discourse on the aftermath of armed conflicts.
