Satakshi Tripathi, Banasthali Vidyapith

ABSTRACT

The legal system of India is very nearly denoting a milestone judgement of giving the death penalty to a female which is a first in Independent India. This choice has set out its own arrangement of debates. This commentary targets giving an outline of this milestone judgment. The Supreme Court bench led by the former Chief Justice of India saw on January 23, 2020, while hearing the review petition recorded by the Amroha capital punishment convicts, that "the courts punish the crime not the person." Shabnam and Saleem, the respondents in the Amroha murder case, were found guilty for killing seven individuals from Shabnam's family in 2008.
