Digital Piracy: Evolving Legal Landscape

ABSTRACT


In simple terms, the illegal distribution of copyrighted material without authorized permit is known as Digital piracy. This can mean literally anything from illegally downloading movies, songs, e-books, videos from the internet, downloading software, etc. There are a number of ways in which the digital pirates get their media, most popularly by downloading the desired content through websites full of pirated material. Digital piracy is condemned due to various reasons: when digital piracy is carried on in a working, professional environment the entire company or the brand will be sued and fined for infringement of copyrights. 95% of the times the pirated software or content that has been downloaded are infected with viruses which tend to mess up the individual’s database and resources in this analysis, we will briefly and precisely explain what digital piracy is, what is the legal context, the history, its recent evolution and how we can put an end to it together.


This research has attempted to highlight almost all aspects related to digital piracy. Every concept has been elaborately explained. Chapter 1 of this research talks about the different ways in which digital piracy occurs and chapter 2 of the research talks about how one can help themselves and ways to put an end to digital piracy as a whole. Special emphasis have been given to the revolution of digital piracy. To complete the research paper, the researcher has used descriptive analysis based on secondary data published by concerned authorities.
