ABSTRACT
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into environmental management practices has gained significant attention in recent years. Eco- AI refers to the application of AI technologies to enhance environmental sustainability by improving the efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of environmental monitoring, analysis, and management. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the literature on Eco-AI, including its potential benefits, challenges, and ethical considerations. The paper discusses the potential benefits of using Eco-AI for environmental sustainability. These benefits include improving the management of natural resources, predicting and preventing environmental disasters, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting circular economy principles. Moreover, the paper highlights the importance of data-driven decision-making and the potential of Eco-AI to enable a more efficient and effective allocation of resources. However, Eco-AI also presents several challenges that need to be addressed. One of the most significant challenges is the potential bias in AI algorithms and data sets, which can lead to inaccurate or unfair decisions. Additionally, ethical considerations such as data privacy and security, transparency, and accountability need to be carefully considered in the development and deployment of Eco-AI technologies. To address these challenges, the paper proposes a framework for responsible innovation in Eco-AI. This framework includes principles of transparency, accountability, and stakeholder engagement. The paper also emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between environmental scientists, policy-makers, and technology experts to ensure that the development and deployment of Eco- AI aligns with environmental laws, regulations, and policies. In conclusion, Eco-AI offers significant potential for environmental sustainability, but it requires careful consideration of its risks and benefits. The proposed framework for responsible innovation can guide the development and deployment of Eco-AI technologies in a way that aligns with environmental laws, regulations, and policies. By promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and responsible innovation, Eco-AI can contribute to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and ensure a more sustainable future for all.
