ABSTRACT
Humans live in societies governed by the Rule of Law, which shapes behavior and fosters a society rooted in legal principles rather than divine authority. To embed legal understanding within the public, legal education systems have been established. Legal education, a branch of human science, encompasses the knowledge, skills, theories, and philosophies essential to teaching law as a universally accepted discipline. It is a comprehensive concept that includes legal instruction, research, and the practical advocacy skills necessary for the courtroom.
The trajectory of legal education in India is impeded by multifaceted challenges that undermine its potential for excellence. This research article elucidates the entrenched barriers, including anachronistic curricula, inadequate infrastructural support, and the chasm between theoretical instruction and practical exigencies. These impediments are compounded by issues of inequitable access and the inertia of regulatory bodies. Through a critical examination, the article advocates for a paradigm shift toward an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented pedagogy. It emphasizes the necessity of systemic reforms, enhanced faculty development, and global benchmarking to cultivate a robust legal education framework that is both resilient and responsive to contemporary legal landscapes.
Keywords: Legal education, systemic reforms, interdisciplinary pedagogy, regulatory challenges, global benchmarking.
