Harleen Kaur Jaggi, UPES Dehradun

ABSTRACT

The metaverse—a collection of immersive digital spaces—is reshaping online interactions, socialization, and commerce. Central to these experiences are avatars, digital representations of users, which also bring forth intricate ethical and legal dilemmas. This paper analyses the global and Indian landscape of the metaverse, delves into the pivotal role of avatars, and addresses the key ethical and legal challenges that emerge. It further spotlights India’s expanding presence in the metaverse and underscores the urgent need for comprehensive regulatory frameworks to foster secure and inclusive virtual environments.
