Ishaan Dewan, B.B.A., LL.B. (Hons.), Kirit P. Mehta School of Law, NMIMS, Mumbai

ABSTRACT:

The historical developments in Japan, starting in the late 19th century, have led to the country having a legal philosophy that has its foundations in various different schools of jurisprudence, including elements of Romano-Germanic civil law, Anglo-American common law and of course traditional Japanese customary law. This study aims to understand the advent of such developments in Japanese legal and civic philosophy by studying and examining the history of the modern Japanese nation-state from the period of 1868-1945. The study uses no primary data and relies on various research papers, scholarly articles and books for the purpose of gathering relevant information.
