Tanu Joshi & Nandini Gaur, Manav Rachna University

ABSTRACT

Gender-based violence in India exists at a level that requires special acknowledgement. It has been seen for a long time that Men abuse women through the battery, use of abusive language, not providing some requirements and overworking them and simultaneously, Women abuse men by not giving them food and engaging in extramarital affairs. Although, cultural norms which comprise societal stigma, gender-based rules, and societal prejudices are major factors that contribute to Gender-Based Violence. Gender Based Violence is pervasive across all social, economic, and national but the type of GBV, the intensity of Gender Based Violence, people’s reactions, and opinions for any Gender Based Violence event are not the same across the globe. For example, acid attacks are a form of revenge in many countries arising because of refusal of a marriage proposal or a love proposal, or land disputes.
