Mustapure Gargi, Christ University, Lavasa, Pune

ABSTRACT:

This essay examines the complex issue of gun regulation in India and its effects on violence, the economy, and broader societal concerns. It explores the relationship between India's strict gun laws and violent crime rates, analyzing data from various states and comparing it with international trends. The economic implications of gun regulation in India are considered, including impacts on the limited domestic firearms industry, healthcare costs, and productivity losses due to gun violence. Critical arguments from both proponents and opponents of current gun laws are presented and evaluated within the Indian context. The essay also discusses potential innovations in gun safety technology and policy approaches relevant to India. By synthesizing research from multiple disciplines, this analysis aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the gun regulation debate in India, highlighting the unique challenges and cultural factors involved in crafting effective policy in this area.
