ABSTRACT
Movement has acquired tremendous popularity in recent decades, for commercial interests. In search of economic benefits and improved quality of life, millions move from underdeveloped areas to industrialised areas. Over the years, a number of problems involving migrant labour rights have been raised, with increasing exposure of Interstate-migrant workers within India. Due to their lack of social and economic stability, Interstate migrant labourers are especially vulnerable. The primary cause of exploitation of these people in the workplace is ignorance brought on by illiteracy and unfamiliarity in local states. Even if there are a lot of rules and policies at the federal and state levels, their employment rights are still unclear in practice. The researcher has chosen this subject matter for study as there is a massive migration of labourers from northern parts of India to southern parts for more than a decade and they are bought as cheap labourers in replacement of native labourers with no legal benefits. This article attempts to develop a picture of these workers in several parts of Coimbatore District in the State of Tamilnadu, focussing on various elements such as their working conditions and understanding of their rights. Furthermore, the study explores the primary obstacles that these workers face in meeting consumer demands, low wages, no fixed working hours, extremely poor working conditions, and in addition the provisions of various labour laws concerning these workers' wellbeing are not being observed in their case.
