ABSTRACT

The exploration and utilization of outer space have entered a transformative era marked by remarkable technological advancements and a surge in commercial and governmental interest. This research paper looks into the complicate interplay between patents and intellectual property in shaping the future of space technologies. As humanity extends its reach beyond Earth's boundaries, the role of intellectual property, particularly through patents, has emerged as a pivotal force driving innovation in the space industry. The paper explores the challenges, ethical considerations, and the need for sustainable practices in the context of patent protection for space products. It emphasizes the importance of international cooperation, innovative technologies, and a re-evaluation of current policies to ensure the sustainability of outer space. The study also highlights the necessity for a sophisticated, internationally harmonized patent protection system tailored to outer space activities to foster private investment and advance exploration capabilities. Ultimately, the paper underscores the critical need for a comprehensive understanding of the patent regime and its application in outer space to create a conducive environment for space activities in this new era of space exploration.
