ABSTRACT

The juvenile justice system in India is an essential structure aimed at addressing the children’s need who are in conflict with the law. It focuses on securing their rights, providing rehabilitation and reintegration services, and ensuring their overall well-being. This abstract aims to provides an comprehensive overview of the introduction, development and functioning of the juvenile justice system in India, including juvenile’s protection with the process of juvenile rehabilitation and reintegration into the society. It also discusses the rights of juvenile offenders and emphasizes the importance of restorative justice in promoting their well-being and reducing recidivism.

The juvenile justice system operates through various components, including Child Welfare Committees, Observation Homes, juvenile justice boards and Special Homes which all ensures the well being of the juvenile offenders. The rehabilitation and reintegration process involves comprehensive support, including education, skill development, counseling, and aftercare programs so that positive outcomes may be arised from the offenders. The rights of juvenile offenders are protected, ensuring fair treatment, confidentiality, and participation in legal proceedings. Restorative justice approaches, emphasizing accountability, reparation, and community involvement, play a crucial role in addressing the underlying causes of offenses and promoting positive outcomes for juvenile offenders. Strengthening the juvenile justice system and implementing effective rehabilitation and restorative justice practices are vital for ensuring the successful reintegration of juvenile offenders into society.
