ABSTRACT
This paper contains an extensive analysis of marital rape, covering its legal background as well as many facets of both perpetration and victimization. This review specifically focuses on theories and the scope of problem, risk factors, resistance tactics, and the psychological and physical impacts of marital rape, victim interventions, and help-seeking behaviors. As per International Men and Gender Equality Survey 2011, two in five men have forced his wife or partner to have sexual intercourse. Marital rape has not historically been considered a criminal conduct; it is only recently that all 50 states have made it unlawful but still in India marital rape is not an offence. Therefore, the researcher also presents arguments for and against making marital rape as a criminal offence in India.
