ABSTRACT

Copyright (Amendment) Act, 2012, drastically changed the copyright regime. Along with others, it made significant changes to the protection of authors of works. Though the provisions related to authors and their protection already existed in the Act, the amendment strengthened the provisions. Sections-17, 18 and 19 of the Act were amended with an intention of ensuring that the authors of works, regardless of the conditions or factors existing, are protected at all costs. The article endeavors to discuss in brief the position of authors, their rights and its protection before and after the 2012 amendment, and thus, make a concise and succinct analysis between the two.
