ABSTRACT
The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) is an appellate body established by the Parliament of India on the 5th of December, 2005, the main aim of its establishment is ensuring maintenance of the Tiger reserves of the nation and take steps towards conserving the Tigers of the nation. This body was established due to the drop in the number of tigers during the 1990s and early 2000s. The NTCA consists of expertise members with necessary qualifications to execute their powers and function efficiently towards protecting the tigers of our nation, their sanctuaries and the reserves.
The Project Tiger is one of the most famous initiatives taken up by the NTCA. It was launched in 1973 and it aimed towards protecting the reserves for the tigers.
This paper seeks to look into whether the NTCA has been successful in it’s functioning. The measure of this success is not looked through one dimension that is whether the number of tigers in the nation has increased or not, despite that being the most crucial focus the success is looked in through a multi-dimensional aspect where the numbers, the improvement in habitats, the various measures and restrictions implemented, the various laws and rules being passed all of these factors re looked into to know whether the NTCA has succeeded in its mission. Focus has also been given towards the Project Tiger initiative on whether it has succeeded towards meeting its objective.
