Neelam Singh, Assistant Professor, School of Journalism & Liberal Arts, Devbhoomi Uttarakhand University, Dehradun

ABSTRACT

The abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 marked a significant moment in Indian history, with profound implications for nationalism and the socio- political landscape of the region, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. This research paper examines the aftermath of the abrogation, focusing on the resurgence of nationalism in India and its impacts on various dimensions of governance, society, and conflict resolution in the region.

The paper begins with an overview of the historical context of Article 370 and its significance in the Indian constitutional framework, followed by an analysis of the decision to revoke its special status and the ensuing political discourse. Drawing upon a variety of scholarly sources, government documents, and media reports, the paper explores the narratives surrounding the abrogation and their implications for nationalist sentiment in India.

The research further delves into the socio-political consequences of the abrogation, examining the measures undertaken by the Indian government to integrate Jammu and Kashmir more closely with the rest of the country. This includes the extension of central laws and schemes, the reorganization of the state into union territories, and efforts to promote economic development and investment in the region.

Furthermore, the paper investigates the impact of the abrogation on the political dynamics within Jammu and Kashmir, analyzing the reactions of various stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, and the local population. It also examines the role of security forces and the challenges posed by issues such as human rights violations, restrictions on freedom of expression, and the militarization of the region.

Through a critical analysis of existing literature, this research paper seeks to provide insights into the complexities surrounding the triumph of nationalism in the aftermath of Article 370 abrogation. It concludes by offering reflections on the broader implications of this development for Indian democracy, constitutionalism, and the resolution of conflict in the region.
