ABSTRACT
This paper aims to delve deep into the complexities and struggles faced by the north-east individuals. Characterized by unique mongoloid features and distinct cultural and ethnic differences, these North-eastern communities are truly one of a kind. Recently, numerous remorseful and regrettable incidents have revealed a significant lack of interest in North-Eastern citizens' upliftment, development and legal protection. This continued neglect ultimately marginalizes and deprives them of their fundamental rights to lead a basic and fulfilling life, rights that the Indian Constitution guarantees. Furthermore, being addressed with derogatory terms such as ‘chinki’ and having their identities and personalities mocked, adds to this dilemma. In addition to this, the government in the recent Manipur incident is showing no signs of interfering and regulating the situation, with the media, which is concerned about displaying criticisms and party propaganda instead of dealing with and reporting the actual real problem. This research has been conducted using the doctrinal method of study by taking into account various reports and studies regarding the oppression against the northeastern people, their unequal representation in various sectors, and exclusion. In conclusion, this paper will also shed light on the adversities and atrocities faced by people of North-eastern communities regularly. Despite being citizens of India with equal rights, there is a lack of law enforcement and insufficient recognition or legal safeguards provided by the government, which holds the responsibility to protect and uplift these communities.
