ABSTRACT

The Election Commission serves as a cornerstone of democratic governance, with a multifaceted administrative role in the electoral process. Its primary mission is to organize, oversee, and conduct elections that are both free and fair, ensuring an accurate representation of the electorate's voice. This article dives into the historical origins and significance of the Election Commission, its mandate, and the constitutional framework that empowers it and this article also explores the rationale behind the creation of the Election Commission and its evolution over time, emphasizing the necessity for an unbiased body to oversee the electoral process. It examines the constitutional provisions that bestow upon the Election Commission its authority and independence, highlighting its insulation from political influence. Apart from everything that is mentioned this article particularly deals with the administrative role of election commission such as Voter Registration and Education, Electoral Planning and Management, Candidate Nomination and Ballot Access, Monitoring Campaign Finance, Electoral Security, Counting and Results Certification, Dispute Resolution, Civic Engagement, Post-Election Evaluation etc.

Furthermore, the article also sheds light on the Commission's role in preventing electoral irregularities and ensuring equitable opportunities for all political parties. And it also analyzes significant decisions and actions undertaken by the Election Commission in addressing electoral disputes and safeguarding the democratic process's sanctity. It investigates the Commission's initiatives in implementing electoral reforms and harnessing technology to enhance the efficiency and transparency of elections.

At last, this article underscores the indispensable role of the Election Commission in upholding democratic principles within a nation. It underscores how the Commission's actions and decisions are instrumental in preserving the credibility of elections, making it a cornerstone of a well-functioning democracy.
