A Critical Analysis Of The Mudgal Committee Report, 2014

Likith Prabhu, School of Law, Symbiosis Law School Pune

ABSTRACT

The Mudgal committee was formed in 2013 as an independent inquiry by the Supreme Court to investigate the match fixing scandal in the Indian Premier League. They submitted their report to the SC after dishing out the dirt from the lucrative league. The committee consisted of Mukul Mudgal, L Nageshwar Rao, and former India Captain Sourav Ganguly to name a few. The report named 13 individuals that were probed and we shall dive deeper into those named, concealed and the recommendations of the committee. I shall be taking interviews of journalists, cricketers, and the famous report into account. The report was a bombshell amidst the celebration of India winning the 2013 Champions Trophy under the guidance of MS Dhoni, who was under the scanner but eventually got a clean chit. His involvement is analyzed non-discriminately in this article. Betting in India has been prevalent since time immemorial and the illegality was immaterial to those involved. Whether betting should be legalized or should the law remain, its course shall be discussed.
