ABSTRACT
Buried Beneath the Baobab Tree is a documentary novel based on the accounts of the kidnapping of more than 250 girls from a high school in Nigeria by a militant Islamist organization Boko Haram. The protagonist in this novel is an unnamed girl whose mother calls her "Ya-Ta" which translates to "Dear" in English. She comes from a rural village where the main occupation of people is farming, despite not growing in a feasible environment to get the best quality education, the girl is a very intelligent one and has big dreams and hopes that are shattered by the collapse of administrative machinery and she along with the other villagers undergoes severe trauma, abuse, and brainwashing. The author of the novel portrays the different kinds of struggles every character in the story has to undergo because of the wrath unleashed by Boko Haram on the people of the village in which the girl resides. The researcher in this paper would mainly be focusing on the reasons why it is important to have strong administrative machinery and how much of an impact a weak administration can create on the lives of the people while also addressing the current examples where the breakdown of administrative machinery has made the lives of people residing in that particular region not less than a hell hole.
