The age-old caste system of India is the main reason that we have reservation in India. In India reservation is mainly given to the four groups which are: schedule caste, schedule tribes, other backward classes and economically weaker section abbreviated as SC, ST, OBC and EWS. Earlier only SC and ST communities were eligible for reservation, but after the Mandal Commission report in 1993 reservations were also given to the OBC community as well. This article aims to bring light to the struggles faced by the minority, history and origin the age-old caste system in India. There are certain provisions in our Indian Constitution which gives power to the government to make laws for the upliftment of the weaker sections of the society.
