ABSTRACT

Littering has existed over the ages and until the 1900s, when public sanitation was considered an important matter for the first time. Now, more than 100 years after that, littering is still an issue. Even though there are government initiatives such as the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Waste to Wealth Mission, the issue of littering still exists. In this light, This paper seeks to discuss the causes and effects of littering in public places in Chennai. This paper uses convenient sampling and collects 200 samples around Chennai to use as data to discuss this matter. This research found that awareness about littering and perceived threats don’t have a significant relationship with littering, the convenience of waste disposal is also significantly related to littering, and the majority of the sample respondents had strong anti littering intentions, but this anti littering intention didn't correlate with anti littering actions.
