An Insight Into The Uniform Civil Code

Introduction


The Uniform Civil code call for the formation and implementation of one uniform law for all personal laws, i.e., Hindu Law, Muslim Law, Christian law etc. Uniform civil code deals with applicable to all religious communities in their personal matter such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption etc.


In 2019 there was a PIL filed against the Minister of law and Justice on the response that the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code is a directive Principle under the Indian Constitution Act under Article 44 which says that the power of implementing UCC is a State Matter.


Article 44 of the Indian Constitution Act 1950 gives power to the state that they shall endeavour to secure a Uniform Civil Code for the Citizen throughout the territory of India. Article 44 is one of the directive principle of the State Policy. Recently Uttarakhand has notified that they are going to introduce Uniform Civil Code. Uttarakhand has become the first State to submit Uniform Civil Code.
