Analysing The Working Of The United Nations Security Council Amidst The Russia-Ukraine War

ABSTRACT
In accordance with the United Nations Charter, the United Nations Security Council was founded in 1946 and oversees preserving world peace and security. It constitutes one of the Principal Organs of the United Nations. The UN was formed after World War 2 “to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war”.The first purpose of the UN is “To maintain international peace and security, and to that end: to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace, and for the suppression of acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace, and to bring about by peaceful means, and in conformity with the principles of justice and international law, adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations which might lead to a breach of the peace.” But still, after the formation of the United Nations in 1945, the world has witnessed various armed conflicts from time to time. And presently, the most serious threat posed to international peace and security is the Russia-Ukraine war. Therefore, the objective of the current study is to analyse the role of the Security Council in mitigating tensions between the nations which are against each other, with special emphasis on Russia and Ukraine war. Further, to look into the challenges being faced by the United Nations Security Council to work freely and independently.
