An age-old concept of adultery which refers to sexual intercourse between a married person and another person who is not their spouse is put under the microscope. Its origination, laws made revolving around it and the current state of it in various countries is identified in the paper. Words synonymously used with adultery are also differentiated in this paper. The gender bias found in these laws is discussed. The decriminalisation of adultery laws in countries and the introduction of new laws are also discussed. Why every society, community or religion requires different laws or rules for their people is discussed based on the culture followed and the lifestyle adopted.
