ABSTRACT

This study follows a doctoral research methodology and aims to provide a critical analysis of the correctional reforms in India, emphasizing their success in aiding criminals to not relapse into criminal behavior, helping them to re-enter society, and improving the overall state of the criminal justice system. This study will also contribute to understanding the challenges, such as overcrowding, funding shortages, staff training, and implementation problems. This research article will also discuss the achievements of Indian correctional reforms and the steps taken by the government to modernize correctional institutions. It will offer suggestions for the areas that need additional reforms and policy suggestions to enhance offender rehabilitation. As correctional reform is a major subject that has received attention on a global scale, this study will compare the Indian correctional system with the correctional systems in other countries.
