ABSTRACT
Torn between the two imperatives of rehabilitation and punishment for juvenile offenders, the juvenile justice system in India finds itself at a critical juncture. Examining the effectiveness of current laws and practices in attaining rehabilitation and responsibility, this study explores the complex balance between these two goals. This research examines the complicated landscape of juvenile justice, highlighting both the opportunities and problems that come with it. It does so by combining legal analysis, socioeconomic insights, and empirical data. This study attempts to clarify the complex interactions between reformation and retaliation by critically analyzing punitive measures like imprisonment and sentence, as well as rehabilitation programs like counselling, education, and vocational training. This paper provides a nuanced understanding of how the Indian juvenile justice system can strike a careful balance between fostering rehabilitation for young offenders and upholding the principles of justice and accountability through a synthesis of theoretical frameworks, legal precedents, and real-world case studies. In the end, it emphasizes how critical it is to implement comprehensive strategies that balance protecting society's safety and security with the well-being and chances for the future of young offenders.
