ABSTRACT


The intersection of mental health and criminal responsibility is a complex and significant issue within the realms of law and psychology. This paper delves into the multifaceted relationship between mental illness and culpability in criminal cases. It explores psychological theories that underpin our understanding of how mental health influences criminal behavior and examines legal standards for determining criminal responsibility. Through the analysis of case studies, this paper highlights the challenges and controversies inherent in assessing mental health within the criminal justice system. By addressing these issues, it aims to contribute to ongoing discussions surrounding the treatment of individuals with mental illness in the context of criminal responsibility.
