ABSTRACT

This paper examines the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in legal education and practice across jurisdictions such as India, the U.S., Brazil, the EU, and Singapore. In legal practice, AI tools like India’s SUPACE and the U.S.’s ROSS Intelligence enhance efficiency through automated case analysis and legal research. However, challenges such as algorithmic bias emerge starkly in systems like Brazil’s Victor AI, which exhibited gender biases in alimony rulings due to skewed training data. Workforce displacement, evidenced by a 15% reduction in paralegal roles at Indian firms adopting AI, underscores the urgency of reskilling initiatives. Institutions such as India’s National Law School and Singapore’s NUS integrate AI to bridge theory-practice gaps in legal education. However, systemic barriers like faculty resistance and funding disparities hinder equitable adoption. Ethical governance remains contentious: the EU’s AI Act mandates transparency for high-risk applications, while Singapore prioritizes innovation through self-regulation. India’s draft AI Ethics Guidelines advocate multilingual inclusivity but lack enforcement mechanisms. The study advocates for balanced frameworks that harmonize global standards— such as explainable AI and bias audits—with localized solutions. Recommendations include modernizing legal curricula, fostering public- private partnerships, and designing inclusive AI tools to address linguistic and socioeconomic disparities. By prioritizing accountability alongside innovation, stakeholders can harness AI to democratize justice, enhance judicial efficiency, and equip future legal professionals for a tech-driven world.
