Assisted Suicide In India: Legal, Ethical, And Societal Perspectives

Konika Goyal, Research Scholar, Department of Law, Galgotias University, Noida, U.P

ABSTRACT

The notion of assisted suicide is examined in the context of India in this research paper, with an emphasis on its legal standing and its legal ramifications. Euthanasia, another name for assisted suicide, is the deliberate act of assisting or facilitating the death of a person who has a terminal illness or is in excruciating pain. While several nations have made various types of assisted suicide permissible in certain situations, India's legal system is complicated and lacks comprehensive laws on the subject. This essay will give a general summary of the law as it stands, look at the legal ramifications of assisted suicide, and talk about the need for an ethical and sympathetic approach to end-of-life decisions in India.

Keywords: Assisted suicide, Euthanasia, Active euthanasia, Passive euthanasia, Indian Penal Code, Punishments and penalties etc.
