Bioethics And Biopiracy In The Patenting World

Samarjeet Singh, O.P Jindal Global University

ABSTRACT

The Research Paper deals with the unethical and immoral practices in the registering of patents. It is very commonly seen that various Multinational companies claim and are granted patents over traditional knowledge used by indigenous communities and then commercially use them without providing any benefit to these communities. The case of patents on Basmati rice, Neem, turmeric and various other traditionally used plants is the proof of widespread nature of this problem. The paper tries to question and address this problem of Bio-piracy and bioethics in Patents.
