Bridging The Gap: A Comparative Study Of Gender Equality And Women’s Employment In India

ABSTRACT

This research paper looks at the gender equality aspect of women's employment in the Indian context, especially the socioeconomic and cultural factors that deter women's employment. Resilient issues, including structural gender bias, insufficient education, and inadequate provisions for women in workplaces, remain unchanged and, consequently, hinder Indian women from engaging in economic activities further than women from other countries with relatively higher female labor employment rates. This paper assesses critical legislation and policies, the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017, and the Mahila Shakti Kendra Scheme, on women's economic empowerment. The cross-sectional comparison of rural to urban employment structure shows inherent differences driven by regional factors. This study establishes the need for education, skills, employment and the corporate sector to step up in the fight for Gender Equity Employment.
