ABSTRACT

Both "criminality" and "criminal tendencies" may be used to describe a person's character or behaviour. There are commonalities among criminals that are worth noting. Theories of crime and the factors that motivate criminal activity all start with somewhat different underlying assumptions. These concepts, together with the recorded traits of persons who have engaged with the legal system, have led to the development and implementation of methods of risk assessment with an acceptable level of accuracy. There is just a shaky link between criminal behaviour and mental illness. As the name implies, crime prevention aims to lessen the likelihood of criminal activity occurring. In the past, it was not always clear "what works" in the unlawful justice system. However, since the 1970s, this question has been answered to a large extent.
