INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND OF INTERNET AND CYBER CRIMES

INTRODUCTION

The popular Sanskrit phrase, Vasudeva Kutumbkamwhich means that the entire world is one single family, seems to have a meaning in contemporary times especially when we talk about the information technology or the internet which is borderless and knows no boundaries. This phrase is also implicit in the spirit of Constitution of India under its article 51 when the framers of the Constitution cast a duty upon the government of India to respect the individuals and laws of other countries while legislating for its own self. However, despite constant endeavors by the UN and all other countries since 1945 much have been done to give meaning to this Sanskrit phrase above by uniting almost all the nations of the world towards a common goal of achieving peace and solidarity among member states.

But with the emergence of Internet this phrase has actually got some relevance as this technology is borderless. The Internet has become the primary means by which people acquire knowledge in this, the so-called "Information Age" of the 21st century. At this time, it is important to remember that about a third of the world's population, or 2.4 billion people, use the internet. There are approximately 7 billion people in the world. The community of people around the world using internet is even more than the population of China which is 1.3511 in which case, if the online world were a country, it would have the largest and fastest-growing population in the world.
