Cyber Crime & Computer Forensics

ABSTRACT

Forensic science and law are interrelated. Forensic science is that branch of science that helps the criminal justice system and ensures a crime-free environment for the common man. Forensic scientists employ techniques and tools to interpret crime scene evidence and use that information in investigations. Digital forensics is the application of proven scientific methods and techniques to recover data from electronic/digital media.


This paper introduces the readers to computer forensics and the need for computer forensics in today’s world. It focuses on the 5 phases of computer forensics i.e., identification, collection, examination, and reporting. The paper focuses on both the technical and procedural aspects of computer forensics. It discusses certain types of computer forensics in brief and the tools employed by the computer forensic investigator in the process of investigation. The paper uses crime data to show the growth of cybercrimes in India and the world and highlights certainly wanted criminals and their crimes.
