ABSTRACT

Traditions form a major part of Indian society and ornaments donned by a woman has cultural and religious sentiment attached to each of them. One such ornament is bangles which are worn by almost all the females in India putting forth their beauty and elegance. These glass bangles are made beautiful by the bangle manufacturers of Firozabad who melt themselves in high temperatures to mould the glass and burn their own eyes to add glitter to the bangles. This industry is directly connected to each and every household in India and forms a major part of it not only economically but also in the religious and cultural sense. Despite the fact that the end product dispatched by these industries brings beauty and happiness to the lives of the people who buy them, the people who contribute to the happiness which the bangle manufacturers lead a miserable life.

Their hardships have extended to such an extent that they do not even have the basic necessities that are required to live a decent life. The Constitution of India duly guaranteeing the right to life and personal liberty is in gigantic violation when it comes to the bangle manufacturers in Firozabad. They are exploited in terms of wages and exposed to hazardous working conditions leading to health issues.
