ABSTRACT
The advancement of technology has opened new doors however, it is pretty much evident that the door has been left azar when it comes to the protection of those advancements. The digitization of documents has launched the chambers of an entirely novel subject in the aspect of the protection of digital libraries and their traditional knowledge with special reference to copyright law. India as a nation has not yet completed the process of consolidating its policies and legislation, especially when it comes to the topics of academic achievement and the dissemination of information. In the setting of electronic libraries, this research aims to discuss Traditional knowledge in online databases as well as the Copyright Act of India. In India, the early works of authors cannot be used without their permission because of a law called the Copyright Act. Because of the rapid advancements in Information Technology that have recently taken place, information is now much simpler to obtain. The existing copyright legislation does not address the digitalization aspect, specifically its containers, use in the context of a smart environment, or the concept of fair use in the context of an online realm. Nevertheless, to a considerable extent, most legislative changes to the copyright act talk about piracy, as well as issues pertaining to software. In this paper, topics such as the Information Technology Act of 2000 and Fair Use in an Electronic Environment are discussed. The reader will come away with a general understanding of the copyright issues as well as the implications those problems have for digital libraries.
