Ethics And Digitalisation - Need, Challenges, And Sustainability

Manika Sharma, PhD Scholar, NLU, Jodhpur

ABSTRACT

In Today’s world, technology has a vital role in our everyday lives. With time, our dependence on technology will amplify. And owing to convenience, our preferences may also oscillate towards the recommendations listed by the algorithms. Although we have entered the world of the digital revolution, we have done this in an ethical vacuum. Besides, the policy and conceptual gaps add to the potential instabilities while interacting with the digitalised world. The repercussions of ethical vacuity would severely affect modern society and economics. This paper makes three contributions to highlight the vital role of ethics in digitalisation. First, it charts out the elements that propel the ethical debate in our tech- savvy world. It identifies the ethical challenges, potential and existing. And finally, after reviewing the current literature, propose a sustainable digitalisation model.

Keywords: Ethics, data, sustainable digitalisation, algorithm, data-driven practices, machine learning.
