Khushi S.Mehta, ICFAI Law School, Hyderabad

ABSTRACT

The principle of natural justice has evolved over time to ensure fair and impartial decision-making by administrative authorities. The concept of natural justice is an inherent part of the Indian legal system, and its application has been recognized and enforced by the judiciary. One of the key components of natural justice is the requirement of reasoned decision- making, which has gained prominence in recent times. This research paper explores the concept of reasoned decision-making and its significance in ensuring fair and impartial administrative decision-making. The study analyzes relevant judicial pronouncements in India and abroad to understand the role of reasoned decision-making. The paper examines the evolution of the principle of natural justice in India and also investigates the impact it has on administrative decision-making and the importance of the right to know the reasons for decisions. The findings of this study suggest that the principle of natural justice and reasoned decision-making are vital components of a fair and impartial justice system.
