Rashmi Rekha Acharya & Shivani Das, KIIT School of Law

Introduction:

The health index of any country is more crucial than its wealth index. The real development of a nation lies in its overall goal to maintain public health by proper and constant monitoring and analyzing of the existing health situations and trends. This goal is expected to be achieved only by a sound health governance system. The public health care system is dedicated to safeguard and improve human health. In this view, governance entails certain factors such as deciding on the strategic vision and objectives, making and enforcing required policies, rules, laws, or decisions, and keeping sufficient means for availability of resources. All these factors are important for the issue of public health maintenance and good health governance system. Not just the health governance but the overall good governance policies or methods of the government. Good governance is understood as a collection of ideas, rules, and institutions that guides how a community manages its economic, political, and social issues in the public, private, and civil sectors. The administration of health and the well-being of the nation are two of the most important considerations. The aspects of good governance are taken into account in a value framework that prioritize health as a human right which is of universal public good and one of the most important aspects of social welfare and justice. However, many health-care systems around the globe are still poorly managed, and as a result many countries are suffering and continuing to struggle with health-care decision-making. It is true that it takes something extreme to check and realize the proper and effective functioning of the existing mechanisms of a state. The sudden emergence of the COVID-19 in the form of a pandemic and its rapid spread across the globe has put out a genuine concern for the global healthcare facilities and maintenance of the global public health. The objective here is to find out and understand how different countries around the world have been dealing with the pandemic and have been working towards its eradication and what are the lessons that are needed to be adopted. The aim of every nation is same but the methodology, policies or strategies that are adopted varies from country to country, which can be identified by looking at the health care policies and other acts performed by the respective governments. Most importantly, it is to be seen that how India has been capable enough to fight against this pandemic with its various methods and strategies of a good governance system.
