ABSTRACT


This article explores the historical, legal and societal aspects of LGBTQ+ rights in India, tracing the journey from ancient acceptance to contemporary struggles. Delving into the decriminalization of section 377 IPC, it highlights the ongoing challenges faced by LGBTQ+ community including marginalization, harassment and rejection. The piece examines legislative developments such as the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2019 and welfare schemes aimed at promoting inclusively. While legal strides have been made, societal acceptance remains a crucial battleground for the well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals in India.
