I.M. Young And Her Unique Perspective On Justice

Siddhartha Mohanty, LL.M, KIIT School of Law

ABSTRACT

In the field of justice, countless people have offered their distinctive viewpoints and thoughts. I.M. Young, a well-known supporter of justice and equality, is one such person. Investigate I.M. Young's remarkable life and its significant influence on the idea of justice. We will look at how Young's unique perspective continues to influence how we approach justice today, starting with her early years and moving on to her significant works. The view of justice held by Iris Marion Young transcends the established paradigms of justice theory. She makes the case that justice should address systemic inequities and power disparities in society as well as individual rights and distributive fairness. The "social connection model" of responsibility, which Young offers, emphasises the notion that people have a moral obligation to correct injustices that take place inside the social institutions they are a part of. Young's notion of the "five faces of oppression," which distinguishes five different types of structural injustice: exploitation, marginalisation, helplessness, cultural imperialism, and violence, is one of her most important contributions. She argues that combating these oppressive practices necessitates a diverse strategy that takes into account the complexity of social interactions. Young also highlights the value of inclusive political processes and participatory democracy as tools for achieving justice. She supports deliberative democracy, in which marginalised people may have a say in the creation of laws and regulations that have an impact on their daily lives.
