ABSTRACT
This Act came as a crucial result to the challenges as a test against the incessant data leaks and security breaches in our fast technologically equipped society. It envisions to protect the privacy of all the individuals within the domestic territory of the State, while incorporating a progressive approach regarding collection, processing and utilisation of data. The perception regarding this act is to maintain a harmonious balance between individuals, organisations and government. It also introduced a new dimension into it: the extra-territorial application. While the objective of this Act is to protect the privacy of individuals, its provisions shows dichotomy in the same through loopholes such as non-processing of non-automated data, unhinged power of government to process data given once by data fiduciaries under the name of Legitimate uses and many more. This research paper explore both its strengths and probable pitfalls in special regards to privacy and a brief analysis of other provisions including suggestions in the end regarding changes for making it more accommodative in this changing society.
