Incarceration To Infection: Effect Of Pandemic On Indian Prison System

ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 pandemic in last years has had an effect on the whole of administrative and judicial system. This is especially true for a country like India. However, the following article aims to diagnose what are the particulars of the damage caused to the prison system and how the judicial and administrative policies have tried to counter problem of the pandemic in the already overcrowded Indian prisons. The Article looks to discuss the absolute effect of the recent Covid-19 pandemic on the Indian Prison system, and how the country has not been able to keep up to the international prison standards provided by various organizations. The measures taken by the judiciary and administrative are also hereby analyzed to find out how far effective they can be and what further improvements are possible in an honest effort to raise Indian prison standards during such mass outbreaks and in general lifetime of prisoners.
