Intercountry Adoption In India

Shreya E R, PES University

ABSTRACT

The relationship between parents and a child is an unexplainable bond. Some kids would not have the privilege to experience this unspeakable bond. And the other reason for the same is that maybe a couple would be infertile and would not have the option to bear a child. Intercountry adoption means that when a couple or any individual is at the stage where they want to adopt a child but would prefer a child with a different country’s citizenship. In order to achieve this, an individual or any couple has to first clear all legal responsibilities in order to carry out this adoption. Some countries have a properly regulated system in order to make this process easier, and some countries forbid it. There have been many judgments in order to make intercountry adoption legal. In the mid-1940's, as World War II took place, many children were orphans, and they needed the love of their parents. Due to this, other countries' citizens came forward to adopt those orphaned children. The other reason why this practice came into practice in modern times is due to the change in lifestyle of people causing infertility, and the alternatives are really expensive in this era. People tend to adopt from different countries where the adoption cost is really low. Through this research paper, a complete analysis of how adoption started, problems due to it, the lengthy process, how it is misused, and why basically a person has to adopt a child from a different country is presented.
