International Trade Law And The Facets Of Human Rights

Arnab Das Gupta, School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be) University, Bengaluru

ABSTRACT

This article discusses the relationship between international trade law and legislation pertaining to human rights. The purpose of trade and economic globalisation is to increase economic growth and prosperity among nations and their people. Both International trade law and human rights law have historically focused on restricting state authority and have been critical to restoring and preserving international peace since 1945. The convergence of international trade law and human rights, as well as trade and the environment, is a critical component of the "trade and commerce" relationship. Throughout the preceding two decades, global civil society has increasingly opposed liberalised trade and investment accords lacking corporate accountability procedures and disregard for human rights.
