ABSTRACT

Elephants are one among the few highly intelligent species on Earth which come close in terms of intelligence, Empathy, Social bonding, and Emotional Capacity of humans. Elephants are wild animals by nature, and they suffer from Stress, trauma, Emotional Disturbances and Psychological Problems when they are chained and Kept in Captivity. Ethically this type of treatment for animals with such high mental and Emotional capacity is inhuman. There are laws protecting Great Apes across the world from Slavery, abuse, maltreatment, and private possession because they are considered close to humans because of their mental abilities. Elephants even have slightly higher emotional intelligence; they can understand what death is and greater memory power is than Great apes. This is scientifically proven. They are no lesser to the intelligence of Dolphins and Great Apes. So humane treatment of these animals is necessary.

In India there are 3000-4000 elephants under Private Possession Majority of them are at various Temples. Some are used in logging business, and some are even used for begging alms on roads. The condition of these Elephants is Pathetic. There is an urgent need to stop this slavery of these Gentle Giants as quickly as possible for the most possible extent.
