ABSTRACT
As artificial intelligence (AI) systems increasingly permeate sectors like healthcare, transportation, and law enforcement, the ethical implications of their design demand urgent philosophical scrutiny. This paper explores how Immanuel Kant's ethical framework, especially the Categorical Imperative, can guide the responsible development and deployment of AI. Kantian principles such as universality, autonomy, and respect for persons offer a robust foundation for evaluating the moral dimensions of AI behavior. Through case studies in autonomous vehicles, healthcare, and law enforcement, this paper illustrates practical ethical challenges and proposes a comprehensive framework for embedding Kantian values into AI design. The paper argues for integrating these principles into AI systems through ethical guidelines, transparency mechanisms, and continuous evaluation to ensure the protection of human dignity and autonomy.
