ABSTRACT

Secularism is a topic that has received positive reception everywhere. However, this is a contentious issue in France, particularly among Muslims who are struggling to maintain their religious identity. The various aspects of secularism in France, a predominantly Catholic nation with the highest Muslim population in Europe, are examined in this paper. Then, in a number of official statements, the failure of the social contract and horizontal inequalities have been identified as the causes of conflict. This paper comes to the conclusion that the issue's future is uncertain, and that reducing the new law's radical ideals is one way to reach a harmonious compromise.
